The years 1837 to the present (1876) represent a part of an era* in history called the Victorian age, aptly named after our Queen This time has been, and will continue to be, one of great contrasts and of major social and political reform. For the wealthy, it's been a time of high living and seemingly endless parties; for the poor a daily struggle for survival.
Although our main focus is on life in 1876, periodically, we will be adding to this segment brief overviews on a variety of topics relative to the period. We trust you will find these items of interest as well as inspiration for additional study.
*Note: The period actually ran from 1837 to 1901.
