Victorian Theatre

Throughout history, the popularity and the genre of theatre was affected by what was happening economically, socially and culturally outside of the theatre. This holds true for Victorian theatre as well. Popular theatre ran the gamut from farce, pantomime, melodrama and animals on stage to opera, Shakespeare and comedy.

To gain a better understanding of Victorian popular theatre, we will discuss theatre and society's influence, its management, the playhouse and the show production.
