Welcome to 1876 Victorian England
Hello and welcome to my home.
I'm Elisabeth Prescott Ashton, and I want to thank you for allowing me to be your host on this journey back in time to 1876.
With some help from my family and our staff, we will show you how a middle-class Victorian family lives; how we decorate our homes, entertain, and play. You will have a chance to go shopping and learn about the "proper Victorian way". And, as a special treat, you'll have the opportunity to spend a traditional Victorian Christmas with us.
We've recently some new sections: a new section on Victorian Masculinity, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner under Queen Victoria and additional information on Victorian Shopping in the Overview Section.
We're going to borrow a little 20th century technology. Some areas in this site are flash-enabled utilizing the Macromedia Flashplayer plug-in. If you don't have it, there's no need to download it as there are corresponding HTML pages for these items. Should you, however, choose to install the plug-in on your computer, you may download it here.
My family and I hope you enjoy your stay, and that you will tell your friends about us.
Now, shall we begin?
The majority of this site (96.3%) complies to the W3C's 4.01 HTML Strict and CSS standards as well as Section 508 accessibility. The 6 pages out of over 160 that don't comply contain scripts written by others over which we have no control.
