Privacy:
"1876 Victorian England Revisited" is owned and operated by Betty Malheiro under the registered domain of Logicmgmt.com. Its purpose is to provide an educational resource for those interested in Victorian studies.
1876 Victorian England Revisited" is committed to your privacy and the privacy of your children as required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. This statement serves to demonstrate this commitment. Please read the following policy to understand how any information collected by this site is treated so that you can take full advantage of what this site has to offer you. Rest assured that any information collected by this site is held in the strictest confidence and not distributed or sold to any third party(ies).
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this statement, please don't hesitate to contact me at bettylogic@aol.com.
What information is collected?
There are four areas where information is collected:
a. Website logs provided to me by web host
b. Guest book submissions
c. Hit statistics
d. Honorary Victorian Award
The following describes what is collected and how it is used.
Log Files
A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. The HTTP standard permits servers to deploy cookies to web browsers, which record settings or preferences for a fixed period of time, specifically for the time of your visit.
Like most web site managers, I use these log files to periodically review/analyze hits received by my site as well as determine bandwidth theft and to find/prosecute for copyright violations if discovered. The information collected for these logs, through the use of cookies, includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, pages visited and time spent on each page. These are collected and saved on a secured server and are accessible solely by myself. They are collected monthly for a period of one year and then deleted. No "personally identifiable" information is included in this process.
Guestbook
I maintain a Guestbook at www.bravenet.com. With the exception of the request of an optional email address, the questions have been purposely kept general. The entries to my guestbook are assigned for my viewing only for the benefit of learning what others think of my site. For those who have chosen or choose to leave an email address, please note that it is used only in very rare instances where an extra special thank you is warranted.
In accordance with COPPA, a child of 13 may not participate by making an entry in my guestbook unless done so with the permission of the parent with the parent verifying (in the comment box) that they in fact have made the entry for their child.
Hit Counter
I maintain a hit counter also provided by www.bravenet.com which keeps track of the visitors to my site. This hit counter provides similar (but not as detailed) reports as stated in Web Logs above and are accessible only by myself.. The counter was placed on the page to provide visitors with the number who have viewed the site previously and to provide me a quick way to obtain a current total without going to the page directly.
Honorary Victorian Award
Beginning in 2006, an Honorary Victorian award has been added to the site. The site uses a cookie to collect the name to be added to the certificate, but once the page is exited, the cookie is destroyed; thus no information is collected.
External Links
1876 Victorian England Revisited provides external links to web service sites, award sites and sites which may be used for additional Victorian studies. In linking them to this site, we take extreme caution in reviewing each to determine that content is safe for all visitors. Due to the volatility of the internet, sites disappear over night so we do make periodic reviews of said sites to ensure they continue to be safe for all ages. In the event you should come across a site which apparently changed between the time of our linking and our review, please notify this webmaster immediately. I will then remove the link from my site.
Most servers are guaranteed with 99.9% uptime, however, there might be a time when the site is not accessible; that we have no control over. As far as advertising exchanges used by said sites, we do our best to check that these too are acceptable for all audiences. Again, if that status changes, the link to the site will be removed.
Privacy policies differ from one site to the next so we urge you when leaving our site to read the privacy policy to determine how the linked site's policy relates to you.
Stated previously, should you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at bettylogic@aol.com.
Accessibility:
1876 Victorian England Revisited is committed to achieving the highest possible standards in web design and as such is proud to say that currently with the exception of the pages noted below, 94% of this site meets W3C's CSS and 4.01 HTML Strict standards as well as Section 508 accessibility.
These exceptions are:
Noughts and Crosses
Draughts or Checkers
English 16
Hare and Hounds
Peggy
Honorary Victorian "Certificate" Page
These pages contain games and quizzes related to the period which I added to the site for interest and educational reasons. Unfortunately they require the use of public domain scripts and applets created and copyrighted by others and cannot be altered without the creator's permission. Certain coding changes were attempted; i.e. "applet" changed to "object"; however, since these items were created before the 4.01 standards were put in place, they did not work after the changes made and thus had to be reverted back to their original format.
