Water Safety

Water SafetyWhen the temperature rises, thousands head for the beach or to the pool to help keep cool. Swimming is great exercise, but care must be taken when in and near the water. Insure that your family stays safe by exercising caution and using the following tips.

1. Never swim alone or in an unsupervised location. Teach your children to always swim with a buddy.
2. Learn to swim. If you can't, wear a life vest.
3. Make sure the water is deep enough before diving in.
4. Learn CPR.
5. Fence all home pools.
6. Don't mix alcohol and water sports.
7. Never leave children unsupervised, not even for a moment.
8. To prevent choking, never chew gum while swimming, diving or playing in the water.
9. If vacationing, find out about tidal conditions. Avoid unsupervised beaches and watch for "riptides". Know what to do should you or a member of your family gets stung by a jellyfish.

And while we're talking about the beach, here is a list of beach bag essentials.
